Your role
The Senior Manager, Revenue Management establishes, implements and directs revenue strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets and develops business plans to set and deliver against the revenue targets including broadcast/digital pricing, audience forecasts, commercial inventory allocations, category planning, and manage rate adjustments throughout the year to meet revenue objectives.

The Senior Manager, Revenue Management develops and maintains relationships with key business partners and clients and sets the strategic direction for the department. The incumbent will also oversee, manage and coordinate all human resources aspects in their respective area(s).

Key responsibilities:

Programming/Digital product – Consultation

  • Liaises with the Network Programming Office or Digital product teams to raise awareness for digital advertising revenue interests
  • Identifies and recommends digital advertising revenue special opportunities relating to programming, program scheduling, program placement, etc
  • Presents issues and/or opportunities to the appropriate program/digital product head and provides strategic recommendations and negotiates conditions to ensure maximum revenue
  • Collaborates, negotiates, and coordinates on strategic plans and activities with internal partners
  • Provides input on online site design in reference to commercial ad product placement and content page strategies

Revenue analysis

  • Develops, implements and executes revenue analysis and practices to support business case development
  • Evaluates the revenue potential for existing services and conducts regular revenue forecasts to ensure revenue objectives will be achieved

Audience Forecasting

  • Responsible for the development of digital media audience forecasts, rationale
  • Coordinates with stakeholders within Media Solutions and internal CBC/RC stakeholders in Programming, Audience Research and Digital Product to align on audience targets for CBC/Radio-Canada

Pricing & inventory Management

  • Establishes ingoing pricing based on demand and competition landscape
  • Adjusts program/online ad product rates based on analysis of program/and product performance, market conditions
  • Monitors inventory usage and adjusts rates to ongoing demand in the marketplace
  • Proactively evaluates inventory and seeks opportunities through inventory-related activities in order to maximize revenue yield
  • Ensures commercial inventory information is obtained, disseminated and available for selling and trafficking
  • Identifies key selling opportunities on an ongoing weekly basis to sales teams across the country

Category planning

  • Collaborates with Sales and Marketing teams on exclusive broadcast/digital sponsorships across all programming on CBC/Radio-Canada

Corporate agreements

  • Collaborates with Media Solutions stakeholders on setting recommendations for Sales on corporate agreement negotiations and agency partnership renewals
  • Collaborates with revenue management directors with Sales leadership to set volume pricing and discount thresholds including partner concessions and general terms of buying guidelines
  • Responsible for development of formal written Agreement between CBC/Radio-Canada and agency Partners; collaborates with Media stakeholders including Sales Leadership and Legal

Project Management/Communications

  • Manages communication flow between Media Solutions, the Network Programming Office, Digital Products Office
  • Acts as a point person within all Media Solutions departments and performs project management facilitation including work-back schedules and assignment of tasks to specific areas such as Revenue Management, Ad Operations, Sales, etc

Staff supervision

  • Directs, supervises and controls the activities of assigned staff; provides leadership and guidance to staff including  assigning objectives, priorities and deadlines; monitors, reviews and evaluates performance; provides guidance, mentoring, coaching, and motivation; responsible for hiring, firing and discipline; and makes salary recommendations; and provides guidance, training and assistance
  • Establishes job core competencies; identify current staff skill gaps; and develop plans to fill gaps and plan for succession

Continuous improvement

  • Analyses departmental strategies and future business trends that could impact operating practices within the department
  • Initiates modifications to procedures and determines and implements best practices to achieve maximum efficiencies
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives including system tools and software design improvements, pursuit of excellence in sales support and customer service, and any other marketing support undertaking

We are looking for a candidate with the following: 
  • Post-secondary education and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in broadcast and related business
  • Extensive knowledge of the advertising industry (and how it functions), media and marketing in the context of a multi-platform environment.
  • Strong background in strategic and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong knowledge of digital ad servers (ie Google Ad Manager, Triton etc)
  • Extensive computer knowledge including G-Suite Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Salesforce
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills, as well as communication and presentation skills
  • Requires the ability to review and assimilate various forms of research, revenue and market conditions into coherent strategies in order to enhance revenue opportunities
  • Position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), to communicate, negotiate and otherwise interact with Sales, Marketing, Programming, Audience Research, Communication, Administration, IT and other support departments as well as external contacts and speak to their perspective and motivations
  • Requires advanced written communication presentation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to lead, manage and motivate the team.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is essential given the massive level of data to be processed. The job can be highly demanding due to frequent interruptions, pressure to respond to Sales and Programming requests with immediate deadlines
  • French and English bilingualism is required
  • Work in a standard office environment. Extended working hours required as needed to fulfill job requirement
